Union County Historical Society needs to purchase a new copy machine! This equipment is necessary and makes it possible for us to keep records and to keep them up-dated for current times. Our members as well as our visitors will have access to the helpful machine while researching information at the library and museum. Contributions of any amount will be greatly appreciated toward this purchase. If you would like to make a contribution in memory of a loved one, we will acknowledge it in our quarterly journal and keep you up-dated about this project. MEDIC Regional Blood Center, like most other community blood banks across the county, is experiencing a decline in donations. MEDIC says they have a need for all blood types but are critically short on O Negative, the universal blood type most often needed during emergency situations when blood type is not known. All donors will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich, Tennessee Smokies t-shirt and chance to win a pair of Smokies home game tickets. MEDIC has two fixed sites for donors, 1601 Ailor Avenue (M-F 8am – 6:30pm, Saturday 8am – 11:30am, Sunday 1pm – 4:30pm) and 11000 Kingston Pike/Farragut (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 9am – 7pm; Wednesday & Friday 7am – 5pm). There are also community drives for donor convenience: July 27, Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2710 Maynardville Hwy, 8am – 11am, Bloodmobile. All donors must be 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more and have positive identification. 16 year olds, weighing 120 pounds can donate but MUST have parental consent. Handgun Training Class August 14-Tennessee handgun permit training class will be held in the training room of he Claiborne County Justice Center in Tazewell, on Saturday, Saturday, August 14, 2010. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. rain or shine. Participants need to bring a safe handgun, 50 rounds of factory ammunition, ear and eye protection.
