-MAYOR WILLIAMS ANNOUNCES NEW ONLINE CALENDAR. Union County Mayor, Micheal Williams would like to announce the new online Union County Calendar, now posted on the County website at www.unioncountytn.com. Members of committees, boards, churches, etc. are encouraged to post meeting announcements and other events that are upcoming. If you want our office to post your announcement, you may send the information to us via fax at 992-1937 or email to marycox@unioncountytn.org. In the subject line, please put COUNTY CALENDAR POST. We hope the calendar will be a useful tool to everyone when scheduling and future events in the community.

-Union County Cancer Support Group meets every 3rd Tuesday at Plainview Community Center. Survivors, caretakers and in-treatment all welcome.

-Union County Democratic Party meets the last Saturday of each month at 10am in the small courtroom at the Union County Courthouse. -Rodney Malone, Chairman

-Meeting Notice-The regular monthly meeting of the Union County Parks and Recreation, Board of Directors will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Union County Court House.  Please feel free to attend and assist with your parks.

From information on home assistance services to food pantries to Medicare questions, the Office on Aging is here to serve you! Union County Health Department offers FREE Flu Vaccine- Flu season is here, and the Union County Health Department is working to protect the entire community by providing free flu vaccinations to area residents aged 19 YEARS OLD AND OLDER. Appointments must be made to receive flu vaccine, and are now being scheduled at the clinic. "Vaccination is the best protection against the flu, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year," said Charles Turner, County Director. "It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so we want everyone who hasn’t had their flu shots to get them now before flu starts circulating widely in our community." Flu shots will be provided at no charge to patients. Please call the health department at 865-9923867 to day to book your appointment. The clinic is located at 4335 Maynardville Highway, Maynardville, TN. and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

KEEP UNION COUNTY BEAUTIFUL SAVE THE DATE FOR:  ELECTRONIC & CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING DAY AT WILSON PARK
Saturday, January 7, 2012 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  Free Coffee & Donuts.  Christmas trees will be chipped on site and you are welcome to load the mulch into your vehicles and use it for your own garden and landscaping needs. In the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, American households generate 25% more waste.  That’s about 1 million extra tons of trash each year.  Please do your part to Keep Union County Beautiful.

The pre-test must be given in order for you to take the Official GED Test. Our center provides all testing free of charge to Union County residents. The funding for the tests is made available through the graciousness of the Union County Mayor and Commission. This local funding enables all of Union County residents to have the opportunity to get their GED and be able to join the work force with a diploma. Please call our center today if you do not have a high school diploma or GED, and we will prepare you for the test. We have classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30-6:30. Our Center follows the Union County School calendar. The holidays are the same as the school system and if students are out for snow, illness, or inclement weather, we do not have classes or office hours.  We will be giving the Official GED tests on the following dates:
• February 13 & 14 • March 12 & 13 • April 16 & 17 • June 11 & 12
Anyone taking the test must arrive at the Union County Adult Education Center at 3:30 both days and be prepared to start testing by
4:00. Be sure to bring two forms of ID with you. These need to include a picture ID, such as a driver license or school photo ID, and another document with your social security number imprinted on it.  Please call our center today for an appointment. The Union County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their annual banquet at the Rutherford Methodist Church in Corryton, Friday, February 3rd, from 6P- 8:30P. This event will also serve to raise the necessary funds to sponsor a marker for the National Civil War Trail program for Union County. Tickets are on sale and may be purchased from Diane Allen, Rebecca Mills, Melinda Wilson-Sharpe, Darlene Wine or through the Chamber.

Valentine Sweetheart Supper on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Union County High School from 4:30-7:30 PM. Menu includes choice of Turkey & dressing or roast beef w/gravy, vegetables, dessert, and drink. Each couple will receive a picture and Red velvet heart-shaped cake. Price is $20.00 for a couple and $12.00 for single. Hosted by the Women In Action of Mountain View Church of God. Carryouts available.

Discussion and possible action as to whether or not there are grounds for additional charges against Mr. Goforth for termination for cause, termination of his contract for cause, and for discharge or dismissal for cause, arising from the Rodefer Moss report presented at the Board meeting of January 12, 2012.
