The Union News Leader's Calendar Of Meetings & Events
(E-mail your event here) The deadline for publication is at 4:30pm Wednesday for the following week's paper.
-The Union County Adult Education Center would like to invite anyone interested in getting a GED to please contact our office for an appointment. We are offering the test on a monthly basis and all pre-testing is free of charge. Classes for anyone that is not quite ready for the test are on Monday and Tuesday evening from 3:30-6:30 in the white modular building behind the Adult Education Office. The Union County Commission and Mayor Mike Williams have made it possible again this year for all residents of Union County to take the GED test free. Students that are not residents of Union County will have the test paid for through funding the center has been able to procure through individual donations, and the drink machine we have in the classroom. Please call today for an appointment to enroll in the adult classes. Classes will be on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 3:30-6:30. Anyone who does not have a high school diploma should call today and get started on getting the GED. The test will be changing in January 2014 to a computer based test, and from all indications will be different from the test we are administering at the present time. The cost of the test will be more expensive and funding for the test could possibly not be available. Anyone who has not passed a subtest should get in and take the part of the test that was not passed. When the new test begins in January 2014, anyone who has not passed all parts of the GED will have to take the complete online test. We are not able to do portions of the test that have not been successfully taken and will not be accepted after the January, 2014 new testing begins. -Melissa Carter
