-The Union County Adult Education Center would like to invite anyone interested in getting a GED to please contact our office for an appointment. We are offering the test on a monthly basis and all pre-testing is free of charge. Classes for anyone that is not quite ready for the test are on Monday and Tuesday evening from 3:30-6:30 in the white modular building behind the Adult Education Office. The Union County Commission and Mayor Mike Williams have made it possible again this year for all residents of Union County to take the GED test free. Students that are not residents of Union County will have the test paid for through funding the center has been able to procure through individual donations, and the drink machine we have in the classroom. Please call today for an appointment to enroll in the adult classes. Classes will be on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 3:30-6:30. Anyone who does not have a high school diploma should call today and get started on getting the GED. The test will be changing in January 2014 to a computer based test, and from all indications will be different from the test we are administering at the present time. The cost of the test will be more expensive and funding for the test could possibly not be available. Anyone who has not passed a subtest should get in and take the part of the test that was not passed. When the new test begins in January 2014, anyone who has not passed all parts of the GED will have to take the complete online test. We are not able to do portions of the test that have not been successfully taken and will not be accepted after the January, 2014 new testing begins. -Melissa Carter

-Sharps Chapel Senior/Community Building Rental Information: Anyone who is interested in renting the Sharps Chapel Senior Citizens & Community Building can now do so by contacting Sherry at 865-257-3978. If you’ve already made a reservation, call Sherry to make arrangements to pick up the key at the Sharps Chapel Bookstation/Library.
-The MOMS Club of the Maynardville area has expanded its region, now including two new zip codes: the Big Ridge Area (Andersonville/Heiskell) 37705 & 37754. The complete list includes: Maynardville & Big Branch 37807; Sharps Chapel 37866; Luttrell 37779; Plainview & Corryton 37721 and now the Big Ridge Area (Andersonville/Heiskell) 37705 & 37754. -The regular meeting of the Union County Lions Club is the third Monday of each month at Hardee’s in Maynardville. All community members are invited and encouraged to attend.
-Union County Cancer Support Group meets every 3rd Tuesday at Plainview Community Center. Survivors, caretakers and in-treatment all welcome.

School Board Meeting Rescheduled The Union County School Board Workshop and meeting that was scheduled this past Thursday, March 27th has been reset for this coming Thursday, April 3rd. The workshop will begin at 6:00pm and the meeting will follow.
RIDE FOR CARLEY Land of Brothers R.C. will hold a Benefit Ride for Carley who is 7 years old and battling cancer. The ride will start at Li’l Jo’s BBQ-2805 Maynardville Hwy on April 19, 2014. The Sharps Chapel Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Sharps Chapel Community Park on Sharps Chapel Road on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. for children 12 years old and under. The event, sponsored by the Sharps Chapel FCE (Family and Community Education) Club, will feature special prizes for the winners in each age group, plus lots of other prizes. The Easter Bunny will be there and members of the Sharps Volunteer Fire Department will also visit. Participants should meet about 15 minutes before the egg hunt time, rain or shine, with their Easter baskets, in front of the Sharps Chapel Senior/Community Center.
The Bits ‘n Pieces Quilt Guild will be meeting April 23rd at the Norris Community Center. Social time will begin at 1:00pm, with the meeting to start at 1:30pm. Members Patty Ashworth and Cyndi Herrmann will talk about labels for quilts. Guests and new members are always welcome. 2nd ANNUAL THUNDER ROAD BLUES BIKE RIDE Law Enforcement Explorer Post # 790 Come and see the motorcycles and ride through a couple of the state parks (Big Ridge State Park, Norris Dam) approximately 66 miles round trip off the beaten path. On May 31, 2014 with rain date June 7th, 2014 @ Wilson Park in beautiful downtown Maynardville, TN. The ride is to support the Law Enforcement Explorer Post # 790 members of the Boy Scouts of America and nonprofit organizations that represent Union County and state and regional competitions. Come enjoy the free bike show, live music, and corn hole tournaments.
